The Lazy River at the Gaylord Texan Resort

Summer is calling. It is time to get away to a destination where you can relax, dine, unwind, and, of course, play.

And located in the heart of Dallas Fort-Worth in Grapevine, Texas, lies the perfect place for all of that and more at Gaylord Texan Resort. Nestled within four-and-a-half acres of indoor gardens and winding waterways, the magnificent resort property offers four award-winning restaurants, a world-class spa and salon, unique retail shopping, a live music venue and three sparkling pools, including a 10-acre waterpark.

“Our team spends all year planning SummerFest for our guests. We can’t wait to welcome families to enjoy the itinerary full of fun events and activities to enjoy this summer season.”

– Martha Neibling, Gaylord Texan Resort’s Director of Marketing and Public Relations

Now through September 7th, 2015, Gaylord Texan is hosting its 12th annual SummerFest event, this year themed after “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” storybook. Visitors are welcomed by the resort’s very own yellow brick road to enjoy themed décor and characters from the original storybook in its indoor gardens kept at a comfortable 72 degrees all summer long.

SummerFest features a variety of activities for both the adults and kids, including an Oz-themed scavenger hunt, an “Oohs & Ahhz” art walk with original pieces from local artists, crafting for kids including painting and cookie decorating, a summer music series, family movie nights, horticulture tours and a fireworks show every Friday night.

Special culinary programs include wine and cheese pairings, junior chef camps, special happy hours, and a VIP barbeque event featuring food demonstrations by the resort’s executive chefs that include generous tastings of brisket, ribs, beer-can chicken, mac n’ cheese, coleslaw and roasted potato salad complemented by local craft beer and wine.

Paradise Springs, the resort’s 10-acre outdoor waterpark, boasts a 600-foot long lazy river, a 6,000-square-foot family lagoon with a 27-foot tall winding waterslide, a 25-foot long zip-line, two horseshoe-shaped hot pools, water basketball and a dedicated toddler pool. For VIP treatment, there is a selection of private cabanas for rent that include flat-screen televisions, refrigerators and fire pits. Kids enjoy the pool activities and games, while parents enjoy sipping on a cold beverage as they float down the river.

It is the ultimate in luxury and summertime fun. For more information on Gaylord Texan Resort and its 12th annual SummerFest event, visit GaylordTexan.com.
