Imbibing Whisky with a Birds-Eye View

Alfresco 64

Having just opened on March 8th and majestically perched 800 feet above the streets of Bangkok on the 64th floor of the Tower Club at lebua, Alfresco 64 – A Chivas Bar is the highest outdoor whisky bar in the world. Offering connoisseurs and luxury jetsetters the ultimate whisky drinking experience, along with stunning aerial views of the skyline and the Chao Phraya River, Alfresco 64 is delivering opulence in the heart of Bangkok.

This visionary concept is the brainchild of Deepak Ohri, a name that has become synonymous with the ‘luxury experience.’ Mr. Ohri introduced The Dome at lebua, Bangkok’s legendary culinary destination, which includes Sirocco (the world’s highest open air restaurant), Sky Bar (named “the most stunning rooftop bar you’ll ever see” by The New York Times in 2013), Breeze (highlighted by USA Today as one of the world’s “10 most cutting-edge restaurants” in 2014), Mezzaluna (honored as a “Foodie Top 100” fine-dining mecca in 2013) and recently Flute, A Perrier Jouet Bar (the world’s highest Champagne bar).

This time around, the luxury hotel and resort group has partnered with Chivas Regal, makers of the most prestigious premium blended Scotch whisky in the world. The mission: to bring a new whisky degustation experience within a unique, ultra-luxury bar. Tastefully designed by the world-class team at DWP, the concept of Alfresco 64 draws inspiration from the sleek lines of a world-class yacht—the epitome of the billionaire lifestyle. The world’s highest whisky bar is divided into three parts, with the first section being an indoor area exquisitely modeled to resemble an opulent yacht cabin, featuring lacquered rosewood flooring and sunken seating. The bar itself was meticulously fabricated using large curved pieces of wood accentuated by silver metal lines which resemble the dynamic design of a luxury vessel, and the front of the bar takes its cue from a yacht’s bridge.

The second section is the Heritage Room, which has been specially created for VIPs and can be used for a variety of special events ranging from private parties to over-the-top whisky tastings. The last and most outstanding feature of the bar is certainly the outdoor area. Beautifully designed to resemble the prow of a luxury yacht, it juts out over the side of the building in a truly exciting way. Featuring comfortable couches, chairs and teak flooring, a glass railing runs along the edge allowing for majestic views of the Chow Phraya River as you sip your drink of choice—truly a heavenly place to imbibe fine spirits.

In addition to sampling signature blends from Chivas Regal as well as other premium whiskies, connoisseurs will also be able to enjoy the one-of-a-kind limited edition “Chivas Exclusive lebua blend.” This whisky is extraordinarily special because it is the first time in their storied history that Chivas Regal has created a blend exclusively for a partner.

Noteworthy is the fact that a special focus group was used to select the right glasses and carafes to take this ultimate whisky drinking experience to the next level. Designed to highlight the softest hues, intensify flavors and aromas, and chills one’s drink without the addition of ice for a more indulgent tasting, adds a lavish touch to an unsurpassed level of sophistication. Additionally, knowledgeable, service-minded staff will be at the ready to share elaborate details about the whisky that you are drinking and assure an experience like no other.
